Binalong Bay at Driftwood Rest - Secret Beach

  • Driftwood Rest is located 2 minutes’ walk to Skeleton Bay Beach and a 10 minute walk to Binalong Bay main beach.

    Multiple beaches make up the Bay of Fires coastline, choices are plentiful and sands pristine.

    Binalong Bay Main beach is most popular for swimming. Occasionally, the lagoon  that lies behind the main beach opens to the ocean, creating a natural drift stream to the sea.

  • Bay of Fires Conservation Area is Tasmania’s best known conservation area. Free camping allows visitors to wake up with the first rays of the sun over the beach.

    Skeleton Bay walking track winds along the cliffs above the shore, taking walkers to views of Skeleton Rock. Further walking trails continue all the way to Humbug Point.

    Blue Tier Regional Reserve offers multiple walking trails within lush mountain forests as well as sub-alpine boulder fields to take in breathtaking views from the mountain summit.

  • Dolphins, humpback and southern right whales are regularly sighted from the main beach, as well as manta rays and white bellied sea eagles.

    Serpentarium Wildlife Park Tasmania offers up close and personal friendships with reptiles from around the world.

  • Binalong Bay is situated between two epic mountain bike trails, with the world renowned Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trails 90 minutes to the north-west and St Helens Mountain Bike Trails 20 minutes to the South. St Helens’ trails offer an unforgettable ride, featuring an epic descent from the Blue Tier wilderness all the way to the beach, along with a network of forest loops that cater to all skill levels

  • Surf, kayak and paddleboard in some of the cleanest waters in the world.

    Snorkeling and scuba diving: The clear waters of Bay of Fires offer an amazing snorkeling experience, teeming with scenic reefs, hidden underwater caves, and a vibrant array of marine life.

  • Tas 4×4 Tours, located a few doors up from Driftwood Rest, provides personalised tours throughout the north-east and east coast of Tasmania.

  • Pack your rods for some rock fishing or consider a chartered fishing excursion: multiple charter businesses can get you onto the water, be it bay, reef or game fishing or for pure sight seeing joy.

  • Lease 65 is an oyster farm located on the road to Binalong Bay, call in for divine, freshly shucked Pacific oysters, to eat by the roaring outdoor fire at Driftwood Rest.

  • What could be more fitting than a picnic at the beach, prepared and packed by the Salty Picnic Company, Binalong Bay, who can arrange a gourmet picnic hamper for any occasion.

  • Cherise Brook Orchard & Family Golf, St Helens, sells seasonal fruit via their shop front cafe. Enjoy homemade produce, outdoor family games and their bush-setting chip and putt golf.

    Eureka Farm, Scamander, offers tastings of homemade produce and sales of such, plus seasonal fruits and ice creams.

    St Helens Markets operate Saturday mornings where local produce can be sourced.

  • Priory Ridge Estate is a boutique, cool climate vineyard located 15 minutes north of St Helens. Tastings and cheese platters available.

    Thirsty Tiger Brewery, located at Easy Tiger, St Helens, offers a range of craft beer, food, live music and a cinema.

  • The Hub, Seaside, Binalong Bay, offers wood fired pizzas, a wine list and a beautiful view over the ocean.

    The Lifebuoy Cafe, St Helens, is highly recommended for a hearty breakfast and coffee, situated within an antiques and homeware store.
